Who we are
The Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park in Hastings has a history of community and corporate collaboration, leading to significant investment in sports and recreation. In 2007, the Hastings District Council sold Nelson Park for $18 million. A portion of this money—$11 million—was used to help fund the creation of the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park, a major facility for the region. The remaining funds from the land sale contributed to the development of additional park spaces closer to the town, including "William Nelson Park."
Today, the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park represents a $25 million investment in sport and recreation, with the Hastings District Council being the primary funder. However, corporate sponsors, such as PAK'nSAVE Hastings, Higgins, and Unison, have also played a crucial role in supporting the park's development.
In 2019, a notable sponsorship deal was struck with the Ricketts family, who own Mitre 10 stores in Napier and Hastings. They secured the naming rights for the park, which was officially renamed Mitre 10 Park. This partnership marked a significant milestone for the park and was seen as a natural fit, as the Ricketts family had been a part of the Hawke's Bay business community since 1961, with their Mitre 10 brand being a staple in the region for 44 years.
